The Ohio State University Homecoming

Digital Signage, Social Media, Print, Promotional Materials

OVERVIEW

Homecoming at The Ohio State University provides a week of activities and rich traditions for buckeye’s past and present to come back home and celebrate their alma mater. In 2022, Ohio State celebrated its 110th year of Homecoming and 100 years in “The Shoe,” the football stadium where the homecoming game is held. The 110th anniversary coupled with the university’s rebrand called for Homecoming to get an updated look.

SOLUTION

In order to ensure the homecoming materials were meaningful to those returning to campus for this tradition, it was important to us that we got feedback directly from those that called Ohio State home. We researched and held discussions with alumni about what Ohio State traditions and symbols resonate most with their Ohio State experience. Among the most common was the Oval – a grassy quad that came to be the heart of Ohio State’s campus. The Oval has become a symbol of Ohio State over the years and has been home to countless memorable events.

IDENTIFIER

The homecoming mark nods to the oval both in its shape and by utilizing the pathways that make up the oval. Within the state of Ohio outline, the paths all lead back to where alumni once called home — The Ohio State University. We created two versions of the mark - an evergreen version and a version with the year.

DIGITAL SIGNAGE

Two versions of digital signage were created for displays across campus.

PRINT

There were several print deliverables for Homecoming week, those included: posters, hot-cards, a-frame signage, parade signage, and a number of banners. The print deliverables were divided between marketing leading up to the week and in-event materials.
